چکیده

We present infrared observations of the young, oxygen-rich supernova remnant 1E 0102.2-7219 (E0102) in the Small Magellanic Cloud, obtained with the Spitzer Space Telescope. The remnant is detected at 24 μm but not at 8 or 70 μm and has a filled morphology with two prominent filaments. We find evidence for the existence of up to 8× 10 M⊙ of hot dust (Td ∼ 120 K) associated with the remnant. Most of the hot dust is located in the central region of E0102 which appears significantly enhanced in infrared and radio continuum emission relative to the X–ray emission. Even if all of the hot dust was formed in the explosion of E0102, the estimated mass of dust is at least 100 times lower that what is predicted by some recent theoretical models. Subject headings: dust, extinction — ISM: individual (1E 0102.2-7219) — infrared: ISM — supernova remnants — Magellanic Clouds

Chandra X-Ray Observatory Arcsecond Imaging of the Young, Oxygen-rich Supernova Remnant 1E 0102.2-7219.

We present observations of the young, oxygen-rich supernova remnant 1E 0102.2-7219 taken by the Chandra X-Ray Observatory during its orbital activation and checkout phase. The boundary of the blast-wave shock is clearly seen for the first time, allowing the diameter of the remnant and the mean blast-wave velocity to be determined accurately. The prominent X-ray bright ring of material may be th...

Measuring Dust Production in the Small Magellanic Cloud Core-collapse Supernova Remnant 1e0102.2−7219

We present mid-infrared spectral mapping observations of the core-collapse supernova remnant 1E 0102.2−7219 in the Small Magellanic Cloud using the InfraRed Spectrograph (IRS) on the Spitzer Space Telescope. The remnant shows emission from fine structure transitions of neon and oxygen as well as continuum emission from dust. Comparison of the mid-IR dust emission with observations at x-ray, rad...

The Evolving ISM in the Milky Way & Nearby Galaxies SMC Observations of Dust in the Small Magellanic Cloud Supernova Remnant 1E 0102.2−7219

The quantity and composition of dust produced in core-collapse supernovae is a matter of much debate. Observations of dust around quasars at high redshift have been explained via models invoking efficient dust production, with typical yields of 0.1-1 M⊙ of dust per supernova. Observations of supernovae and their remnants, however, have yet to provide evidence for efficient dust production. Obse...

Detection of a Rare Supersoft Outburst Event during a Suzaku Observation of 1E 0102.2–7219

We report the detection of a transient X-ray source toward the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) using the X-ray Imaging Spectrometer (XIS) onboard the Suzaku telescope. The source was detected at the edge of the XIS image during a routine observation of the calibration source 1E 0102.2–7219, a supernova remnant in the SMC. We constrained the source position using ray-tracing simulations. No such tr...

High - Resolution X - Ray Spectrum of Supernova Remnant 1 E 0102 . 2 - 7219

Chandra High Energy Transmission Grating Spectrometer observations of the supernova remnant 1E 0102.2-7219 in the Small Magellanic Cloud reveal a spectrum dominated by X-ray emission lines from hydrogen-like and helium-like ions of oxygen, neon, magnesium and silicon, with little iron. The dispersed spectrum shows a series of monochromatic images of the source in the light of individual spectra...
